Sheep Shuffle: Fall 2011

Garrett and I got up early on Saturday morning and headed to Beloit to meet Lori in order to transport 4 sheep to Cyndee Wolfe, who was going to be meeting us north of South Bend, IN. Our timing was perfect and we pulled into the truck stop/sheep switching station, parked the truck and walked to the back to find the tailgate had popped open on the way. HOLY COW!!! Panic attack. There were 2 rams (tied with halters) staring at us and one little ewe in the background pecking around them. We were freaked out.

We got the sheep from Lori loaded and we were off again...............

ON the road again.........

2nd stop...South Bend, IN to deliver sheep to Cyndee from Lori

Then we got to the second truck stop/sheep transfer site and got Cyndee's sheep loaded without incident.

Seriously??? Fruit acres??..........this amused me for some reason.
Who was the genius that named this place?

Hmmmm, I can't seem to find Michigan on this atlas.

Yep, that's sheep alright. (arrival at Stephen's)

Great pics Kelly! I was surprised how well the one at the Grill House turned out. The waitress did a great job getting everyone! I miss the sheep already -- just glad they are with someone who likes them! :-) I'll be looking forward to seeing their lambs! WE all sure had a great time with you and Garrett!

About us

We live close to the IL/WI border, almost perfectly centered in the state. Our farm is 4 miles west of Monroe, WI and tucked back off the main road in a peaceful little valley.

We are home to a flock of Purebred Shetland sheep, 1 alpacas, 2 llamas, 3 horses, a flock of laying hens, a couple Maremma guardian dogs, our house dog, Tess and our 2 house cats.

We strive to raise all our animals using as little chemical input as we can manage, and part of our goal for the herd is to breed towards parasite resistance. All of our animals are treated with respect, kindness and love, and are free to graze and roam our pastures. Our main focus is on fiber animals, but horses are my first love, so we do a lot of trail riding as well.

Having a connection with the food, fiber and meat we raise is something that holds great value for my husband and myself, as well as making sure that the animals in our care are treated with kindness no matter where their journey may lead.

My focus for my Shetlands is to raise, soft, silky, fine-fleeced animals without disregarding conformation, mothering ability, hardiness and temperament. Our focus is polled, fine fleeced Registered Purebred Shetland sheep. But we also have a few crossbred sheep and pet or fiber sheep for sale.

I do sell some of my fiber, roving and yarn and have a limited number of Shetland pelts for sale. I am an avid knitter, and have just recently begun to spin and now addicted to that as well. Life is quite simply.......perfect!
